Remember January

Posted on 09-01-2012

To commemorate the one year anniversary of the devastating floods that hit Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley in 2011, Brendon Walmsley has penned a song highlighting the incredible and inspirational community spirit demonstrated during the region's darkest hours.

Brendon will perform his song, "Remember January", at the official unveiling of the flood memorial located above East Creek on the corner of Margaret and Victoria Streets, Toowoomba - the scene of many of the dramatic images broadcast around the world at the time of January's "inland tsunami".

REMEMBER JANUARY

Rain came down
Like we'd never seen rain coming down before
And before we knew
A wall of water tore our town in two
Out poured pain and desperation
Fear and devastation
And then it grew

As rain came down
Like a freight train racing down the great divide
We couldn't hide
As it washed away our homes, our hopes, our pride
And it changed our lives forever
But what we did together
Can't be denied

When we remember January
We can lend a hand to many
Send a prayer to heaven
Ever thankful that we can
Be standing strong beside each other
Holding on as we recover
Love is all that matters in the end
Remember January

Walls came down
When we saw what all the water left behind
Now what is mine
Is yours to use, no thought of border lines
And it changed our lives forever
'Cause what we do together
Can't be denied

When we remember January
We can lend a hand to many
Send a prayer to heaven
Ever thankful that we can
Be standing strong beside each other
Holding on as we recover
Love is all that matters in the end

Remember who we are and what defines us
A fighting spirit lights a way well worn
No sudden summer storm, no river rises
To overcome this overflowing kindness

When we remember January
We can lend a hand to many
Send a prayer to heaven
Ever thankful that we can
Be standing strong beside each other
Holding on as we recover
Love is all that matters in the end
Love is all that matters in the end
Love is all that matters in the end
